The Frankfurt Book Fair – one of the largest book fairs in the world – takes place October 19th to 23rd in Frankfurt, Germany. Smith Publicity, as usual, will be there! This year we will be located in the American Collective Stand. CEO Dan Smith will be representing the company and meeting with dozens of authors, publishers and industry influencers to discuss Smith Publicity’s diverse array of book marketing and book publicity services.
If you’re attending the fair for the first time, be prepared to be overwhelmed. The exhibit space is probably 15 times the size of BookExpo America, taking up an entire city block. However, many of the buildings are language-specific, so you’ll likely spend the most time in one or two buildings. We encourage you to explore as much as you can – it’s a book event like no other.
Attendees from over 100 countries will be at Frankfurt, as well as thousands of media representatives, publishers, agents, distributors, authors and any and all industry vendors.
If you’re looking for a book publicist, you already know where to go! But remember that at Frankfurt you will find every aspect of the publishing industry represented, and the event is also very well known as the venue for foreign rights negotiations and deals. It’s also important to keep an eye out for special events at the fair, including educational seminars and genre-specific talks and presentations.
A few tips if you’re attending:
- Plan to arrive early. Have at least one full day before the fair begins to adjust for jet lag, so you’re fresh and ready to go at the fair.
- Plan ahead – spend time on the fair website, book-fair.com, to review exhibitors and events.
- Try to make appointments ahead of time! Unlike BookExpo America, Frankfurt is very appointment-oriented, and not nearly as free form with stop-by meetings.
For the second year, the fair is preceded by The Markets: Global Publishing Summit 2016. On October 18th, 300 publishing and media executives from more than 20 countries will gather in Frankfurt for a full day of inspiring presentations, in-depth one-on-one conversations and facilitated networking opportunities. Dan Smith will also be in attendance at this event, meeting with global publishing thought leaders and executives.
We hope to see you there in Frankfurt at the Fair and the Summit. If you have any questions about where we’ll be, give us a call. Good luck!
