You might have heard about “Flippy” the burger flipping robot. Now, robots have begun a potential invasion into the publishing industry. A bookstore in China has opened, with no employees – but a robot. Amazingly, because customers must register through their WeChat accounts, giving the store access to purchasing information, the robot staffer can offer "precise and humanized" book suggestions to customers.
Now, can a robot ever replace a book publicist? Not likely, although a robot certainly wouldn't get bothered by rejected pitches and last-minute breaking news “bumps” that ruin their client’s TV interviews!
I think the book marketing industry is safe from a robotic takeover … for now.
